The IGNOU MBA Project Course (MMPP-001) is one of the most important components of the MBA program. It is equivalent to two courses (8 credits) but is registered as a single course. Unlike other courses, no separate study material is provided. Instead The IGNOU MBA Project Course (MMPP-001) holds a unique place in the curriculum of the MBA program. It is not just another course; it is the bridge between theory and real-world practice. By combining the weight of two courses into one, this project allows students to deeply engage with their learning experiences while also developing essential skills for their future careers. However, there’s a twist—students do not receive separate study materials like they do for other classes. Instead, they must rely on their knowledge gained throughout the MBA program and independently seek out resources that will help them complete their project.

Steps for Project Work

Students must follow IGNOU’s official guidelines while preparing the project. Below are the important aspects:

  1. Selection of Topic
  • The topic must be from your specialization area.
  • The title should clearly convey the subject matter.
  • You can choose:
  • A Case Study (single/multiple organization)
  • An Inter-Organisational Study (comparisons/validations)
  • A Field Study (Empirical Research)
  1. Selection of Guide (Supervisor)

A suitable guide must be chosen to supervise your project. Eligible guides include:

  • IGNOU Management Faculty
  • Approved Academic Counsellors at study centres
  • Faculty with at least 5 years of PG teaching experience
  • Professionals with Master’s degree + 5 years of relevant experience

Note: A guide can supervise only five students at a time.

  1. Preparation of Synopsis

Your Project Proposal (Synopsis) must include:

  • Introduction – Background of your topic
  • Rationale – Why you chose this topic
  • Objectives – Clearly defined, measurable goals
  • Research Methodology –
  • Research design
  • Data sources (primary/secondary)
  • Sample size & sampling method
  • Tools for data collection (questionnaires, interviews, etc.)
  • Statistical tools for analysis
  • Limitations (if any)

  1. Submission of Synopsis

You must submit:

  • Proforma for Approval of Synopsis (signed by student & guide)
  • Guide’s Bio-data (signed by guide, unless an approved counsellor)
  • One copy of the Synopsis

Submission Mode:

  • ODL Students → Submit at your Regional Centre (offline/email).
  • MBA (Online) Students → Submit via LMS portal to the designated RC.
  1. Evaluation of Synopsis
  • You can submit your synopsis anytime after registration in MMPP-001.
  • Submit early (within first 6 months) to get enough time (8-9 months) for report writing.
  • Once approved, you’ll get a Project Proposal Number (PP. No.), which will be used for all correspondence.
  1. Feedback & Approval
  • The Regional Centre sends written communication within 2-3 months regarding approval/rejection.
  • If the guide is not approved, you must select a new guide and resubmit.
  • Changing a guide later also requires resubmission as a new proposal.
